Use a MIDI Keyboard with an Online Harmonium

Web Harmonium supports Web MIDI in compatible browsers so you can connect an external keyboard, keep the online harmonium sound, and still use the browser-based interface.

How Web MIDI harmonium support works

If your browser supports Web MIDI, Web Harmonium can request permission, detect connected MIDI devices, and route incoming note messages to the online harmonium engine.

That gives you the flexibility of an external keyboard while keeping the same Sargam labels, guides, and browser-based setup from the main tool page.

Who this setup is for

A Web MIDI harmonium setup is helpful for learners who already own a keyboard controller, teachers demonstrating notes, or singers who want a wider playing surface than a laptop keyboard provides.

It also works well when you like the online harmonium interface but want more physical key travel than a computer keyboard can offer.

Browser support and graceful fallback

Not every browser exposes the same MIDI APIs. When Web MIDI is unavailable, the main harmonium still works with click, touch, and laptop keyboard input. The page makes that fallback explicit so the site remains useful even without a connected device.

Play with or without MIDI

If Web MIDI is unavailable in your browser, you can still play the same instrument with click, touch, and laptop keyboard input on the homepage.

MIDI Harmonium FAQ

Can I connect a MIDI keyboard directly in the browser?Answer

Yes, in compatible browsers. The MIDI card can request access and report whether devices are ready, connected, or unsupported.

Do I still need the on-screen keyboard when using MIDI?Answer

The on-screen keyboard remains useful because it shows Sargam and note labels, settings, and current input options even when the notes are played from external hardware.
